Project Overview

Connectra's development team built a complete e-commerce platform for a local retail business looking to expand their market reach beyond their physical store in Kigali. The project transformed a traditional brick-and-mortar operation into a thriving online business, generating $15K+ in monthly online sales within the first year.

Platform Design

The e-commerce platform was built on WordPress with WooCommerce, chosen for its flexibility, extensive plugin ecosystem, and ease of use for the client's non-technical team. We developed a custom theme aligned with the brand's visual identity — featuring a clean, mobile-first design with high-quality product photography, intuitive navigation, and a streamlined checkout process.

Core Functionality

The platform includes a comprehensive product catalog supporting 500+ SKUs with categories, filters, product comparisons, and customer reviews. The inventory management system syncs bi-directionally with the physical store's POS system, ensuring accurate stock levels across both channels. Low-stock alerts, automated reorder suggestions, and sales velocity analytics help optimize purchasing decisions.

The checkout flow supports multiple payment methods: mobile money (MTN MoMo, Airtel Money), Visa/Mastercard via Flutterwave, bank transfers, and cash on delivery. Order tracking with SMS/WhatsApp notifications keeps customers informed from purchase to delivery.

Performance Optimization

Given Rwanda's varied internet speeds, we implemented lazy loading, browser caching, CDN delivery for static assets, and server-side optimization achieving sub-3-second load times on 3G connections. The mobile-responsive design ensures a smooth experience across all devices — critical since 65% of traffic comes from smartphones.

Marketing & SEO

We implemented on-page SEO optimization, Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel for retargeting, and email marketing automation through Mailchimp.
